Ricolinostat Reduces Pain in Diabetic Peripheral Neuropathy
- Injection of streptozotocin ablates pancreatic beta cells, eliminates insulin production, and causes a rapid, severe rise in blood glucose
- Rats develop pain in the feet similar to painful neuropathy in Type I diabetic patients
- Pain in rats is detected by measuring the force needed to elicit a paw withdrawal (Force of Withdrawal)
- Similarly to gabapentin, ricolinostat reversed neuropathic pain
- Unlike gabapentin, the effect of ricolinostat persists for days after the end of dosing
